During a press conference on Sunday, Sarandon opened up about the professional repercussions she’s faced due to her public support of Palestine.
Sarandon’s revelations came as she promoted The Echo Chamber Andrea Pallaoro’s adaptation of Bernardo Bertolucci’s final screenplay, which is competing for the Golden Lion. The film marks a significant collaboration for Sarandon, who plays a storied songstress navigating complex relationships in her comeback journey.

Sarandon’s press conference remarks shed light on the ongoing difficulties she faces in Hollywood due to her political stance. ‘I’ve still had movies taken away recently because there are agencies that are telling people not to hire me still,’ she admitted. Despite these challenges, she expressed gratitude for finding support elsewhere, particularly from international audiences and independent filmmakers like Pallaoro.
The actress, known for her iconic role in Thelma & Louise was dropped by talent agency UTA in 2023 following her participation in several pro-Palestine rallies. She acknowledged the power structures at play but emphasized her resilience: ‘I think within the people, certainly internationally, I feel welcome. I found my family, I found my people, and I’m okay.’

Sarandon observed a notable shift in public perception regarding Palestine and Israel. ‘I think that the narrative has completely changed in terms of the historical relevance of Palestine and the ties of Zionists with America and our politics,’ she stated. She highlighted increased awareness about U.S. financial support for Israel and recent political developments that have brought these issues to the forefront.
‘How much money the United States gives to Israel? Nobody really understood that. And also now we have voted to combine the army of the United States with the army of Israel,’ Sarandon explained. She noted that while public understanding has evolved, certain industry factions maintain strong positions against her activism.
