Cineplex, Canada’s leading entertainment and media company, has reported a robust performance for June 2026, with combined box office and concession revenues surpassing pre-pandemic 2019 levels by 6%. The company’s June box office revenue reached $55.8 million, marking a 108% increase compared to June 2026. For the second quarter, box office revenue grew by 11% year-over-year to $176.2 million.
The impressive results underscore the enduring appeal of theatrical exhibition and the sustained demand for out-of-home entertainment. The domestic box office has been tracking at its highest year-to-date level since 2019, with more 2026 releases surpassing $200 million domestically than in any year since 2018. Obsession is approaching $250 million at the domestic box office, a milestone achieved by very few original films in recent years. Backrooms emerged as one of the year’s most successful horror releases, highlighting the ability of compelling content to build audience momentum beyond the opening weekend.

The breadth and strength of content not only drove attendance but also encouraged guests to embrace the full moviegoing experience. Cineplex’s premium food and beverage offerings helped drive record theatre food service revenue in the second quarter.
