The festival’s opening night film, La Bola Negra directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (collectively known as Los Javis), is already generating significant buzz. When a major queer film finds mainstream success and still chooses to regionally premiere within a queer film festival, it shares its visibility, success, and power with the queer community she stated. On the other end of the spectrum, Julian is a tearjerker about a newly married lesbian couple facing a health tragedy. Something You Should Know About Me executive produced by Lily Wachowski tells the story of a trans male cartoonist finding love, while Montreal, My Beautiful features Joan Chen in a romantic drama about self-discovery.

Son of Sara, Volume One is a chilling variation on Rosemary’s Baby while Body Blow is an ’80s-style crime thriller with a gay twist. The festival concludes with a 30th-anniversary screening of The Celluloid Closet an award-winning documentary based on Vito Russo’s seminal work.
