The film industry is abuzz with the acquisition of Elsinore by Focus Features. This emotional drama, directed by Simon Stone stars Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman and is set to hit theaters on November 20 in a limited release, expanding over Thanksgiving and throughout December.

Elsinore follows the life of Ian Charleson known for his roles in Chariots of Fire and Gandhi. The film focuses on the final years of Charleson’s life and his celebrated 1989 stage performance in Hamlet while he was seriously ill with AIDS. Charleson, who was gay, was diagnosed with HIV in 1986 and passed away from AIDS four years later at the age of 40. He famously asked that his diagnosis not be announced until after his death as a means of raising awareness for AIDS.
