In the ever-evolving world of digital entertainment, Prime Video has emerged as a frontrunner, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. At the recent APOS media conference in Balithe company unveiled its ambitious vision for the future of streaming, emphasizing the importance of an entertainment hub that consolidates various content offerings under a single platform.
This strategy, presented by Gaurav GandhiVice President of Prime Video for Asia-PacificAustraliaand New Zealandhighlights the company’s commitment to adapting to the diverse needs of the region. By integrating originals, partner channels, rentals, and add-on subscriptions into one seamless experience, Prime Video aims to provide the widest selection of content to its users.
Navigating the Diverse Asia-Pacific Market
Gandhi emphasized that the Asia-Pacific region is a patchwork of diverse markets, each with its unique challenges and opportunities. “We operate a common business model, but we cannot have a common playbook for a diverse region like APAC,” he stated. Despite the regional differences, two consistent elements across Prime Video’s core Asian markets are its integration within Amazon’s Prime membership program and its hub model, which layers add-on subscriptions and transactional rentals on top of the core subscription tier.
The hub model is designed to benefit both customers and content partners. Customers enjoy a one-stop shopping experience with access to a vast array of content through a single app and billing relationship. Content partners, on the other hand, gain distribution and access to a massive audience without the need to build their own tech and payments stack. Prime Video now collaborates with over 600 content partners worldwide, including more than 70 in Japan50 in Australiaand 30 in India.
