Meet the New Faces of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding its horizons with the introduction of the X-Men franchise. Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Studios, Marvel Studios has gained the rights to these iconic mutants, paving the way for a fresh start in the MCU. The untitled X-Men movie, directed by Jake Schreier, is set to begin filming in 2027 and will hit theaters on May 5, 2028.

With the reboot comes the opportunity to recast many of the beloved characters from the original X-Men films. While some actors, like Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, may return, most roles will be filled by new talent. This opens the door for a diverse range of actors to bring their unique interpretations to characters like Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Storm, Wolverine, and other staples of X-Men storytelling.

The New Faces of the X-Men

The cast for the upcoming X-Men film includes a mix of rising stars and established actors. Here are some of the key roles and the actors who will bring them to life:

Sadie Sink as Jean Grey

Jean Grey is one of the most powerful and prominent members of the X-Men, known for her telepathic and telekinetic abilities. She is also the host of the Phoenix Force, which grants her immense power but also brings darker tendencies. Sadie Sink, who made her debut as Jean in Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring a fresh perspective to the character. Sink is best known for her role as Max in Stranger Things and has also appeared in Netflix’s Fear Street movies and Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. She becomes the fifth actress to portray Jean Grey in live-action.

Kit Connor as Cyclops

Cyclops or Scott Summers, is a founding member of the X-Men with the ability to emit optic blasts from his eyes. Kit Connor, known for his role as Nick Nelson in Heartstopper will take on this iconic role. Connor has also voiced characters in animated films and appeared in A24’s Warfare. He becomes the fourth actor to play Cyclops in a live-action Marvel movie.

Christopher Abbott as Professor X

Professor X or Charles Xavier, is the leader of the X-Men and founder of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Christopher Abbott, known for his roles in Girls, The Sinner, and Catch-22, will bring depth and complexity to this character. Abbott has also appeared in films like Wolf Man, Kraven the Hunter, and Poor Things. He becomes the third Professor X actor in live-action movies.

Adam Driver as Mister Sinister

Mister Sinister or Dr. Nathaniel Essex, is a formidable villain in the X-Men universe. Adam Driver, known for his role as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequels, will bring his intense acting skills to this character. Driver has also been nominated for two Academy Awards for his roles in BlacKkKlansman and Marriage Story. Mister Sinister will serve as the film’s main antagonist.

Samara Weaving as Emma Frost

Emma Frost is a complex character who has been both a hero and a villain in the X-Men comics. Samara Weaving, known for her roles in The Babysitter, Ready or Not, and Scream VI, will bring her unique charm and intensity to this role. Weaving will be the third actress to portray Emma Frost in live-action.

Inde Navarrette as Rogue

Rogue is a longstanding member of the X-Men, known for her ability to absorb the powers of anyone she touches. Inde Navarrette, who gained recognition for her role in the 2026 horror film Obsession, will bring a fresh energy to this character. Navarrette has also appeared in 13 Reasons Why and Superman & Lois. She becomes the second actress to play Rogue in a live-action movie.

Maya Boyd as Storm

Storm or Ororo Munroe, is one of the most iconic and beloved characters in the X-Men universe. Maya Boyd, known for her theater performances in Merrily We Roll Along and & Juliet, will make her feature film debut with X-Men. Storm’s ability to control the weather and her leadership skills make her a crucial member of the X-Men team.

The Impact of Spider-Man: Brand New Day on the MCU

The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has set a high bar for the MCU. The film has already surpassed the combined box office earnings of the last three MCU movies, making it a significant financial hit. This success highlights the enduring popularity of Spider-Man and the potential for the X-Men reboot to achieve similar heights.

The film’s impressive box office performance can be attributed to several factors. Spider-Man is one of the most recognizable and beloved characters in the Marvel universe, and Tom Holland’s portrayal has been widely praised. Additionally, the film’s secrecy surrounding Sadie Sink’s character and the inclusion of Hulk helped maintain audience interest and excitement.

The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day also reflects the challenges faced by the MCU’s 2026 movies. Films like Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps struggled to achieve the same level of success as Spider-Man. This makes the upcoming X-Men film a crucial opportunity for the MCU to regain momentum and captivate audiences once again.
