Zendaya Reveals Struggles Filming The Odyssey with Christopher Nolan

Working with acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan is a dream for many actors, but even the most seasoned professionals can face unexpected challenges. Zendaya known for her roles in both drama and action films, recently shared her experience of struggling with her lines on the first day of filming for The Odyssey.

The Emmy-winning actress discussed her experience during a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, hosted by Josh Horowitz. Zendaya admitted that working on a Nolan set for the first time was nerve-racking especially given the freezing conditions they faced that day.

Zendaya’s Battle with the Elements

Zendaya explained that she had prepared extensively for her role, but the extreme cold in Iceland where they were filming, took a toll on her performance. ‘It was particularly cold,’ she recalled. ‘My mouth was just frozen. Oh, there is nothing coming out. My mouth just won’t move. Literally. It just came out like, “Blah blah blah.” So embarrassing.’

The actress admitted that the freezing temperatures made it difficult for her to deliver her lines effectively. Despite her thorough preparation, the harsh conditions proved to be a significant obstacle. Zendaya’s candid admission highlights the unexpected challenges that even experienced actors can face on set.

The Odyssey: A Mythic Journey

The Odyssey based on Homer’s ancient Greek poem, follows the perilous journey of King Odysseus (played by Matt Damon) as he attempts to return to Ithaca after the Trojan War. The film features a star-studded cast, including Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Lupita Nyong’o and Robert Pattinson.

Zendaya portrays the Greek goddess Athena in the film. Despite the initial challenges, she expressed her excitement and admiration for her co-stars. ‘It was such a pleasure and a gift to be able to share scenes with people you’ve admired for so long,’ she said. ‘I was so moved and excited to be there and wanted to do my best work.’

The film is set to hit theaters on July 17 and audiences can look forward to an epic retelling of the classic tale, complete with mythical creatures and thrilling battles. Zendaya’s experience serves as a reminder that even the most talented actors can face unexpected hurdles, but their dedication and passion for their craft shine through.
