The 2026 Primetime Emmys final voting period has commenced, running from August 21 through August 26. As voters finalize their choices, the race for the coveted golden statues is heating up. This year’s campaign season has seen a flurry of activity, with nominees pulling out all the stops to sway the Television Academy members.
In the past week, the TV Academy’s Televerse event showcased FYC Presentations from a diverse array of nominees, including Abbott ElementaryAll Her FaultThe BearBeef and Hacks among others. Platforms have also organized their own events to promote their nominated series. HBO Max dedicated a day to celebrating Hacks its critically acclaimed comedy series that received 25 nominations this season. The network also hosted a special live performance at the Fonda Theater in Hollywood, where cast members reprised their roles for the first and only time in front of a live audience.
The Battle for Best Drama Series
The Best Drama Series category is shaping up to be a fierce competition. Leading the pack is The Pitt from HBO Max which has been a consistent favorite throughout the season. Close behind is Pluribus from Apple TV followed by The Diplomat on Netflix. Other notable contenders include Your Friends & Neighbors on Apple TVParadise on Hulu and Slow Horses on Apple TV.
The Comedy Showdown
In the Best Comedy Series category, Widow's Bay on Apple TV is making a strong push, challenging the long-standing favorite Hacks on HBO Max. Shrinking on Apple TV and Margo’s Got Money Troubles are also in the mix, along with Abbott Elementary on ABC and The Bear on FX. The race for Best Comedy Actor is particularly intense, with Matthew Rhys from Widow’s Bay leading the pack.
Limited Series and Movies
The Best Limited or Anthology Series category is dominated by Beef on Netflix which is aiming for a bookend trophy after winning in 2026. DTF St. Louis on HBO Max and Love Story on FX/FX on Hulu are also strong contenders. In the Best Movie category, Remarkably Bright Creatures on Netflix is the front-runner, followed by People We Meet on Vacation and Miss You, Love You on HBO.
Variety and Nonfiction Categories
The Best Variety Series category features familiar faces, with The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver leading the pack. The Best Variety Special (Live) category is dominated by high-profile events, including the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny and the Oscars. In the Best Documentary or Nonfiction Special category, Marty, Life Is Short on Netflix is the top contender, followed by Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man! on HBO.
As the final voting period comes to a close, all eyes are on the Television Academy members to see which shows and stars will emerge victorious at the 2026 Primetime Emmys.
