In a decisive move that underscores its prominence in genre cinema, Cineverse has secured the North American distribution rights to the horror-thriller The Night Driver. The acquisition follows the film’s high-profile world premiere at Screamfest, where it attracted considerable attention from several bidders. The deal places the company at the forefront of bringing a fresh, tension-filled chase narrative to audiences across the United States and Canada.
The picture centers on Hurdis Matheson, a traveling pharmaceutical salesman portrayed by Josh Lucas. After a fateful roadside encounter with a deranged killer, Matheson finds himself relentlessly stalked as the murderer frames him for a string of murders. As the police launch a nationwide manhunt, Matheson must race against time to prove his innocence. Alyssa Milano appears as his supportive wife Cheryl, while David Arquette assumes the role of Detective Granger, the officer tasked with untangling the deadly web.
Plot dynamics and cast chemistry
The film’s narrative draws heavily from classic road-horror archetypes, echoing the relentless pursuit seen in titles such as The Hitcher. Lucas delivers a gritty, paranoid performance that captures the escalating dread felt by a man who is both victim and suspect. Milano adds emotional weight, embodying a spouse desperate to clear her husband’s name while navigating bureaucratic indifference. Arquette provides a seasoned counterpoint, portraying a detective whose dedication to uncovering the truth serves as the story’s anchor. Supporting roles from Charlotte Kirk, Danielle Vasinova, and Gina La Piana broaden the ensemble, adding layers of intrigue and occasional moments of relief.
