According to the International Union of Cinemas (UNIC), cinema admissions across Europe decreased by 4.4% totaling 873.2 million. Concurrently, box office revenues saw a slight decline of 1.2% amounting to €6.9 billion.

UNIC’s report revealed that box office figures varied drastically from one territory to another. Several countries experienced growth in cinema admissions and box office revenues. These included AustriaBosnia and HerzegovinaCroatiaCyprusDenmarkGermanyGreece and the United Kingdom among others.
The UK box office reached £990.5 million in 2026, marking a 1.2% increase year-on-year. The top local production, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy generated £43.3 million and ranked as the second highest-grossing title of the year. The highest-grossing film 3 million in earnings.
France and Spain see declines
In contrast, France recorded a significant drop in cinema admissions, with 156.2 million admissions in 2026, a 13.9% decrease from the previous year. The biggest French title, God Save the Tuche sold 3 million tickets. Meanwhile, Spain registered 65 million admissions and box office takings of €453 million a 5% drop. While revenues saw a 3% increase in the first half of the year, they decreased by 16% in the second half of 2026.
