The Toronto International film festival (TIFF) is set to make waves in the film industry with its inaugural TIFF: The Market event, running from September 10-16. The festival has curated an impressive lineup of speakers and honorees, promising to deliver insightful discussions and celebrate cinematic excellence.
Among the notable figures gracing the event are Gary Oldman star of the acclaimed series Slow Horses and Robbie Brenner the producer behind the global phenomenon Barbie. They will join a diverse array of industry leaders, including directors, producers, and executives, to share their experiences and perspectives.
Visionaries Program: Celebrating Unparalleled Careers
The Visionaries Program will showcase the remarkable careers of some of the industry’s most influential figures. Gary Oldman known for his versatile and unforgettable performances, will anchor a discussion centered around his creative process. The talk will highlight his illustrious career, including his role as Jackson Lamb in Slow Horses which premieres its sixth season at the festival.
Robbie Brenner a two-time Oscar-nominated producer, will participate in a moderated discussion that celebrates her career. As the president and chief content officer of Mattel Studios Brenner brings The Housewife to this year’s festival, adding to her impressive portfolio, which includes Dallas Buyers Club and Barbie.
Lee Chang-dong the acclaimed South Korean filmmaker, will be a focal point of the Visionaries Program. His upcoming release, Possible Love will serve as the centerpiece of the conversation, which will explore his naturalistic style and his consistent desire to delve into the human experience. Lee Chang-dong will also be honored with the Ebert Director Tribute Award at this year’s festival.
Dialogues: Exploring the Art of Filmmaking
The Dialogues program will feature in-depth discussions on the craft of filmmaking. Curry Barker and Inde Navarrette the director and star of Obsession will share insights into the making of the breakout hit. The film, which premiered at TIFF last year, has become one of the biggest box office successes of the year.
Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler the founders of Killer Films will discuss the multifaceted role of a producer. Their conversation will provide valuable insights into their approach to working with filmmakers and the challenges they face in the industry.
Special Events and Honorees
The festival will also host a special event featuring Matthew Belloni and Matthew Greenfield. Belloni’s popular podcast The Town part of Spotify’s The Ringer podcast network, will be live at TIFF: The Market. Greenfield, the president of Fox Searchlight Pictures will join Belloni for an engaging discussion.
The TIFF Tribute Awards will honor a distinguished group of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to cinema. Penélope Cruz will receive the TIFF Special Tribute Award presented by Chanel. Lee Chang-dong will be honored with the TIFF Ebert Director Award presented by The Tory Family. Rosalind Eleazar and Isabelle Huppert will receive TIFF Tribute Performer Awards while Siân Heder will be presented with the TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media presented by Anne-Marie Canning.
The Tribute Awards gala, presented in partnership with Rolex with support from RBCDon Julio and Fairmont Royal York Hotel is TIFF’s largest annual fundraiser. The event celebrates cinematic excellence and supports expanded access to cinema, championing artists, and strengthening the industry.
